Malta Society of Arts

The Malta Society of Arts was established on April 24th, 1852 and has been based in Palazzo de La Salle at 219 Republic Street, Valletta since 1923. With over 160 years of activity, the MSA has organised competitions and exhibitions, and has also participated in exhibitions abroad. Many Maltese artists and craftsmen were assisted to further and complete their studies overseas. Over the years, the MSA has gained the prestige of official recognition and patronage from different governors, successive presidents and archbishops of Malta. The MSA was the first institution in Malta to set up a lace school, and to organise adult classes in arts, crafts and music, promoting local talents whilst teaching the proper skills necessary for visual and performing arts. It pioneered apprenticeship schemes and technical education in Malta. It has been the Maltese representative of the London College of Music for around 80 years.
